If you decided to earn a certificate at Scrum.org or just learn Scrum better, my quizzes should greatly help you:
- Professional Scrum Master™ (PSM I™) preparation quiz – learning mode | real mode
- Professional Scrum Product Owner™ (PSPO I™) preparation quiz – learning mode | real mode
- Scaled Professional Scrum™ (SPS™ aka Nexus™) preparation quiz – learning mode
When I decided to pass PSM I exam, I found no good free practice quizzes. The open assessments at Scrum.org are fine, but the number of available questions is too small. I decided to help all the Scrum learners by creating these free quizzes. You will learn the Scrum Guide by heart and get an idea of the real assessments.
There are two quiz modes:
- Learning Mode – Each question has an immediate explanation. No time limit. All quiz questions are available. Pass it several times and you will be prepared well for the real assessment.
- Real Mode – It is very similar to the real assessment. No correct answers and explanations. There are 80 randomly selected questions and 60 minutes. Try it and get the feeling of the real assessment!
All the quizzes based on the Scrum Guide v2017.
If you are looking for more questions or want to clarify some weird Scrum topic, take a look at Scrum Questions page.
Questions about the real exams and the quiz itself are answered at Quiz FAQ page.

Hi Mikhail!
Thank you very much for posting this sample exam. It is of great help! I’m planning to do my exam tomorrow and I’ll be back here to post my results.
I completed the exam and received a mark of 96% (77/80). I have few questions/suggestions as result of my experience doing your exam:
There are three questions (the ones I got wrong) that may need better formulation in my humble opinion. they are:
1) What comprises scrum? The answer according to your exam is “the roles, rules, artifacts, events and scrum teams”. My understanding is that scrum is comprised of the aforementioned except for the scrum teams as the scrum teams is part of the roles. If you are going to include the scrum teams as part of the answers then why not also include (which I don’t recommend including but rather trying to make a point) scrum theory (empiricism) and values (focus, respect, openness, commitment and courage)?
2) Who is responsible for coping with incomplete artifact transparency? The answer has two parts as you know, which is the scrum master and the scrum team (as per the guide). I got this one wrong as I jumped right into the first answer I saw makes sense (the scrum master). I did that as the question didn’t include “choose all available variants” or a hint that there are tow possible answers. Could there be a question with two required answers without a hint that there might be two on the real exam? If not, perhaps you could provide a hint so that people don’t jump into the ONE answer they think is most appropriate?
3) Who is responsible for crafting the Sprint Goal at the Sprint Planning? The answer as per your exam is the development team and the scrum team. I got this one wrong for the same reason as above. I chose the first answer I though was most appropriate without thinking there might be another. In addition, I would add the following to the explanation so that people could understand the reasoning behind the answer as per the guide:
The Scrum Guide states:
The Product Owner discusses the objective that the Sprint should achieve and the Product Backlog items that, if completed in the Sprint, would achieve the Sprint Goal.
After the Development Team forecasts the Product Backlog items it will deliver in the Sprint, the Scrum Team crafts a Sprint Goal.
Thank you once again for your contribution to all screamers out there and I hope that I do well tomorrow.
Adam
Mikhael, I wanted to add that in relation to Q3 above. I think that perhaps having the answer as the “scrum team” instead of both scrum team and development team might be the better answer?
Hi Adam,
Thanks for using my quiz and for the great questions.
The first question is based on the following phrase from the Scrum Guide:
The Scrum framework consists of Scrum Teams and their associated roles, events, artifacts, and rules. Each component within the framework serves a specific purpose and is essential to Scrum’s success and usage.
I agree with you, Scrum Teams and their associated roles mean just “roles” here. The next sentence in the Scrum Guide confirms it:
The rules of Scrum bind together the events, roles, and artifacts, governing the relationships and interaction between them.
Also if we take a look at the Scrum Team definition, we will find:
The Scrum Team consists of a Product Owner, the Development Team, and a Scrum Master.
So, the Scrum Team consists of roles. It makes no sense to have “Scrum Teams” as a separate answer for the question.
Thanks again for the good catch! I fixed the question in the quiz.
—
I checked the second question. It seems you confused it with another one. The question is:
Who is responsible for coping with incomplete artifact transparency?
And it is a single choice question. The right answer indeed is The Scrum Master.
In my quiz I have several questions without specifying how many correct answers are expected. As far as I remember, the real exam also contains similar questions. A hint here is if several options can be selected, you are expected to select at least two of them.
—
The same confusion with the third question. The question is:
Who is responsible for crafting the Sprint Goal at the Sprint Planning?
The question is single choice. The correct answer is The Scrum Team. So, your understanding is perfectly right here too.
Anyway, thanks for using my quiz and trying to make it better! Sometimes people find inconsistencies in the Scrum Guide itself.
Thanks Michael! I might have confused the question with having two possible answers.
By the way, I got my certification yesterday with 97.5% (78/80). Part of my success is owed to using your quiz to prepare. I’ll be writing a LinkedIn article about my preparation and I’ll be sure to point readers to your quiz.
Once again, thank you for posting this!
Adam
Adam,
Congratulations. Good score!

Hi Mikhail , Good Day ! am planning for the PSM 1 exam. have studied scrum giude many times and getting consistently 100% open scrum as well as sample tests you had created. I am still not feeling confident since we are not practicing SCRUM in our arganisation and most the questions are on real life scenario. Am confused pls help
Hi Vipsaryan,
Thanks for using my quiz.
If you constantly have about 100% in the open scrum quizzes and in my quiz, you are good to pass the PSM I exam. Questions about real life scenarios are mostly in the PSM II exam.
Regards,
–Mikhail
I just took my PSM 1 assessment this morning and passed with a 92%, thanks to your Real and Learning modes of the assessment. The actual exam was quite a bit harder than your assessments, but they definitely prepared me and put me in the right mindset to think in theory and not just memorized answers. Thanks for doing this for the community.
Hi Thomas,
Thanks for using my quiz and sharing your success.
Maybe I need to add several harder questions in the quiz.
–Mikhail
hi mikhail,
today i passed psm1 assessment with 98% score. thank you very much for your thoughtful and quality exams. i love your idea of two modes (learning & real) of exam – very effective. continue with your great mission
take care
murad
Hi Murad,
Congrats! Very impressive score!
I am glad I helped you.

Hi Mikhail,
Thank you for the amazing quiz! It’s been very helpful as a reference and guide for the items contained in the PSM exam.
I wanted to bring up an item of note, however. One of your questions, in Learning Mode, may be populating wrong and I wanted to bring it to your attention; granted, it may be oversight on my part and I am missing something which makes the format correct:
In the category of Scrum Events, a question reads “Please, select a time box for each Scrum event”. Underneath, it states “Sort elements” and provides the given boxes of Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective, and Sprint Planning respectively. using the choices, I matched up Daily Scrum with 15 minutes, Sprint Review with 4 hours or less, Sprint Retrospective with 3 hours or less, and finally Sprint Planning with 8 hours or less.
I submitted my answer and the quiz informed me that I was incorrect, highlighting the fields of 4 hours or less (which I had next to Sprint Review) and 8 hours or less (which I had next to Sprint Planning). Underneath “Incorrect”, the explanation stated all of the time boxed events and their correct times; it confirmed my times were correct for all four choices.
I can only assume that this could have happened as the initial elements are populating randomly but the choices should be patterned to match a static choice. I say this as I have answered this question correctly on several occasions and did not receive the error.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know.
Overall, your quiz is one of the best resources I have been able to find for the PSM exam and I am thankful that there are people like you helping people like me understand in order to further the goal and commitment of Scrum.
Thank You for all the hard work
– Christian
Hi Christian,
Thanks for using my quiz and trying to make it better.
There is a well-known confusing behavior of the quiz engine with “order it” questions. Most likely you experienced it. When a user orders answers and presses “Check” button, the engine always places the answers in the right order and marks in red the answers that were on wrong places. In your case it means that the first time you mixed up the times for Sprint Review and Sprint planning. Then you started answering correctly and did not see this behavior anymore.

–Mikhail
Hi Mikhail,
Wanted to thank you for creating the PSM1 quizes. I got certified this Sunday and it was really helpful. Thanks so much!
cheers!!
Hi,
Thanks for using my quiz and sharing your success!
–Mikhail
Hi Mikhail,
Thanks a lot for this quiz. It helped me to clear the PSM I certification today. Your quiz gave me an idea of how the exam will be and the learning mode is especially extremely helpful giving the tips and reasons for the answers. This is a new way of learning! 🙂
Thank you

Nishanth Soundararajan
Hi Nishanth,
Thanks for your words. I am glad my quiz helped you.
–Mikhail
Hi Mikhail,
Your quiz is amazingly helpful and covers almost all the aspects for PSM-1. I have cleared PSM-1 exam last Friday and secured 93% with preparation of 1 week (1-2 hours a day). Thanks a lot for doing all this work and helping others, the real time quiz helps in matching time and gives feel of real exam.
For others, who are yet to write the PSM-1 exam, this is what I did to prepare and may help you:
– Read the scrum guide and try to remember each and every point in that, I noted the important points in a paper, like values, time boxes for each events, responsible and accountable person for each event.. etc. It helped me in remembering easily and saving some time in exam for tough questions.
– start with open assessments on Scrum.org, keep attempting until you start getting 100% for three consecutive times. Better not to attempt consecutively in single sitting, I did this three times a day with 5 hours difference.. and could achieve 100% from 4th-5th attempt onward.
– then start practicing with quiz in learning mode given here by Mikhail, first with practice quiz until you start achieving at least 95% in consecutive tests. There are 80 questions in this quiz which covers all the aspects of Scum guide and helps in remembering them.
– Once confident start writing quiz in real time mode, this will help in boosting the confidence further.
– Read the scrum guide once again before attending PSM-1 exam, now guide will be much more clear.
In exam, few question will be straight forward from the Mikhail’s quiz but not all. So remember to read the question and all options before thinking its the same question that you know already. In the exam, questions can be marked as review and can be answered later, but before marking to review always mark the favorable answer you think and do not leave any question unanswered. During practice you may find that 60 minutes are too much of time, but trust me while in real exam 60 mins will be just sufficient.
All the best.
Thanks,
Abhijeet
Hi Abhijeet,
Thanks for using my quiz and your tips. I think they will be really helpful for all the Scrum learners.
–Mikhail
Hi Mikhail,
I cleared PSM I exam with 93.8% in the first attempt on Saturday 19th August. Your tips and especially your quiz was extremely helpful for exam preparation. Thank you so much!
I have 11+ years of IT experience in Java development (SDLC) and support. I don’t have agile experience. But I loved Agile concepts. I would like to do PSM II certification as well. Do you have any tips for PSM II certification? Any recommended books to read? Or in general, what would be your suggestions if I need to pursue my career as a Scrum Master? Can you advise? (I am taking a break as I am waiting for my work permit)
Thanks
Supriya
Hey Supriya,
Thanks for using my quiz.
About PSM 2 certification I wrote in the quiz FAQ.
The scope of PSM 2 is the same as PSM 1, so you can read the same recommended books.
However, the questions in PSM 2 are tough. Usually you won’t get any straightforward questions about the Scrum Guide contents. They will ask you to think about or interpret the meaning from the Scrum Guide, apply content from the PSM subject areas, and in some cases, apply your own experience.
To become a real Scrum Master you have two opportunities:
Best regards and good luck,
–Mikhail
Hi Mikhail
Thank You for your suggestions.
-Supriya
Hi Mikhail,
I created an ID on your site just so that I could post you a thank you message. I gave my PSM-1 assessment sometime ago and scored a 100%.
When I wrote your quiz for the first time, I attempted it in real mode and failed and I remember a message which said something like “We helped you save $150”. You could not have put it any better. Am sure you helped saved lot of bucks for a lot of people.
I cannot thank you enough for taking the time out and creating a test for people like me to get an understanding of the type of questions you get in the actual assessment. Even though we are practising SCRUM in our organisation, the learning mode test of yours taught me few things which I did not know. That made all the difference in me failing and passing.
I found the actual assessment to be trickier, NOT tougher, than the test here though. The wordings in the questions were confusing, but spending time reading the question clearly more than once helped. So did the age old tactic of eliminating incorrect options to narrow the scope.
Once again, a huge thank you Mikhail. You are a legend!
Hi Srinivas,
100% is awesome. Congrats!
You are the first one who I know with such a high score.
Thanks a lot for your words. It is a very big pleasure to see that the results of my work really help people.
Best regards,
–Mikhail
Hi Mikhail,
just passed the PSM I exam with 96.3 score. Thank you for your quiz. The learning mode is a GREAT way to help people get this.
Thanks again,
Manolis
Hi Manolis,
Congratulations!
Thanks for your feedback.
–Mikhail
Hi!
I got 100% score on the real mode quiz 3 times already. Will this be sufficient enough for mt to take the PSM I exam and pass? I did not try the open assessment exam though.
Hi Sheryl,
100% is a good achievement. Most likely you will be able to get 85% in the real quiz. However, I would advise you to score about 100% in all the available open assessments too.
Thanks,
–Mikhail
Just a general question. Does anyone know how much time you have time to take the exam once you pay for it? I have heard that you have to take the online exam within 2 weeks after you register and also heard that there is no time limit on when the test can be taken. Someone please assist.
Hi,
At the PSM I page you can find that: “Passwords have no expiration date, but are valid for one attempt only.”
So, when you pay for the exam, the next day you have a password to start the exam. The password has no expiration date.
Thanks,
–Mikhail
Thanks for the clarification Mikhail. Your PSM 1 quiz is a blessing for all the potential test takers. One quick question as i have been asked quite often that which certification is better for someone who is new to scrum and wants to take the exam and hopefully get a job as a scrum master, is it the PSM path or taking the 2 day CSM course? Would appreciate your input on this.
As far as I know, the both certifications are equally recognized. However, there are some important differences:
So, there are two points to consider when you are choosing between PSM and CSM:
Hi Mikhail,
I passed the PSM I with 93.8% (75/80) in first attempt.
Your quiz helped me a lot in clearing the exam.

Hi Mikhali,
For PSM1 certification do i need to go through with Scrum Developer, Product Owner assessments?
Thanks
Hi,
No, you do not.
Hi,
Glad that I found your site. Your quiz has been super helpful for clearing PSPO 1 assessment. I only used your quiz and the book https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Scrum-Product-Owner-Certification-ebook/dp/B01D73SRH4 to prepare.
I have a question though. Though I am certified I still see that I am only knowledgeable about Scrum related knowledge for the Product Owner role. Is that good enough to play the role? I guess I am asking if there is any ‘pure’ Product Owner training that I need to undergo.
Hi Medin,
The book looks good. I looked through its content and first pages at Amazon. It contains sample questions with explanations and several chapters describing the PO role.
Thanks for the interesting question. In my opinion, if you passed PSPO exam, you already have a good understanding of the Product Owner role. Then only practice can help you to develop qualities of a real Product Owner.
Probably some training could help. For example, you could be given some real life situations and be asked to resolve them. Then you could analyze your answers with the trainer. I have never taken any similar training, so I cannot advise one to take. Anyway, it would be just a training.
Being a Product Owner requires not only theoretical knowledge, but also some soft skills. You need to be able to effectively communicate with other people, be able to listen, be able to persuade, understand the product market very well, etc.
Regards,
–Mikhail
Hi Mikhail,
Kind thanks for Quiz. Its helps me lot to prepare for PSM1 Certification and i have passed the certification today. Looking forward for your help for PSM2 preparation.
Thanks
Piyush
Hi Piyush,
Thanks for using my quiz. I am glad I helped you.

Hi Mikhail,
I am going to take up PSM exam, I have attempted your quiz – the Learning and Real Mode couple of times and have scrored more than 98%
and on Open Assessments 100 % everytime.
I am still not confident to take up the Final exam, as I am browsing through other links and trying to give test there(Which i am not even able to get 68%)
Please let me know with what else I have to be prepared to, to take up and be confident for the exam.
waiting for your reply.
Thank you !!!
Hi,
Thanks for using my quiz.
It is great that you constantly score almost 100% in my quiz and the open assessments. Usually it means that you are prepared well.
However, if you fail to answer questions in some other quizzes, you need to understand why it happens. Maybe there is some topic that you need to learn better.
My tips how to pass the exam are given here.
Best regards,
–Mikhail
Has anyone passed the PSM 1 exam lately? How was your experience?
