Everyone suffers from it. Again I will mention that the great Soft Skills book by John Sonmez told me about this hidden foe. John writes he was inspired by another remarkable book The War of Art by Stephen Pressfield. So, I read it and the enemy is…

Resistance

Resistance appears if you need to do any act that rejects immediate gratification in favor of long-term growth, health, or integrity. For example, any calling in writing, painting, music, film, dance, or any creative art; any diet or regimen; education of every kind; and of course programming. Stephen claims that whenever we try to elevate ourselves to a higher plane of existence, resistance rears its ugly head and tries to keep us where we are.

Rule of thumb

The more important a call or action is to our soul’s evolution, the more Resistance we will feel toward pursuing it. We can use it as a compass. We can navigate by Resistance, letting it guide us to that calling or action that we must follow before all others.

How to beat Resistance?

We have to learn how to beat this resistance if we’re ever going to succeed at whatever endeavor we’re pursuing. But how do we beat this foe? How do we hold resistance’s face to the mat and make him tap out? We simply sit at our desks and do what we’re supposed to do. We all have to learn how to push through and just do the work. There’s no easy answer.

Turn a Pro

In other words you should turn a Pro. What is the difference between the professional in contrast to the amateur?

The amateur plays for fun. The professional plays for keeps. To the amateur, the game is his avocation. To the pro it’s his vocation. The amateur plays part-time, the professional full-time. The amateur is a weekend warrior. The professional is there seven days a week.

No mystery

There’s no mystery to turning pro. It’s a decision brought about by an act of will. We make up our mind to view ourselves as pros and we do it. Simple as that.

Turning pro is a mindset. If we are struggling with fear, self-sabotage, procrastination, self-doubt, etc., the problem is, we’re thinking like amateurs. Amateurs don’t show up. Amateurs crap out. Amateurs let adversity defeat them. The pro thinks differently. He shows up, he does his work, he keeps on truckin’, no matter what.

Try to be the pro, not the amateur.

Bye!

Hi friends, Today I am going to tell you about your biggest enemy which probably you do not even care about.
