SwingSet2 – ComboBox Demo – Jeff Dinkins<\/p><\/div>\n

I suppose, every\u00a0person who started studying Java tried examples included into the JDK. Do you remember SwingSet2 application that demonstrated all\u00a0Java graphical capabilities? I think, you do.\u00a0Personally I learned Swing using this great app.\u00a0And how could I\u00a0stand aside when I was asked to create a\u00a0demo for the\u00a0new SwingSet3 application?<\/p>\n

Each\u00a0demo in\u00a0SwingSet3 devoted to a specific\u00a0UI control\u00a0like sliced faces\u00a0demo to JComboBox, etc. When I joined to the project only GridBagLayout and\u00a0JSpinner were left. My friend quickly took the layout and said his favorite task\u00a0is writing\u00a0calculator programs. So, JSpinner became mine.<\/p>\n

What interesting could I do with this not so popular control? Finally I decided to implement code drawing a\u00a0Mandelbrot Set where JSpinner serves very well allowing to tune the palette easily and navigate through the set. I think my demo is one of the most impressive in the app. Also it uses several threads to maximally utilize\u00a0CPU power for fractal calculations.<\/p>\n

If you like to try SwingSet3, please do the following:<\/p>\n

  1. You should have Java installed<\/li>\n
  2. Download SwingSet3.jnlp<\/a> file and save it locally<\/li>\n
  3. Click on\u00a0SwingSet3.jnlp to start the application<\/li>\n
  4. If security restrictions does not allow to run it\n

    1. Open control panel<\/li>\n
    2. Find and open\u00a0Java<\/em> entry<\/li>\n
    3. Navigate to\u00a0Security<\/em> tab<\/li>\n
    4. In the Exception Site List<\/em> add mlapshin.com<\/em> using Edit Site List<\/em> button<\/li>\n
    5. Try to launch the application again<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
